Mercury in Reverse Cowgirl

2022

Spray paint on Ceramic Sculpture with Resin Finish

54 x 14 x 14

$8500

This piece reimagines the classical beauty of the Venus de Milo through a thoroughly modern, emotionally sunburnt lens. Spray-painted with chaotic bursts of color and symbols of love, lust, vanity, and self-doubt, this sculpture captures what it feels like to be perfectly imperfect in today’s hyper-aesthetic world.

Inspired by a girl from LA who once blamed all her feelings on Mercury being in retrograde, the title is both a cosmic inside joke and a nod to how absurdly we try to rationalize our chaos. Because sometimes it’s not retrograde—it’s just heartbreak, insecurity, too many mirrors, and one too many exes who ghosted you after Coachella.

Underneath all the layers of paint is still a timeless goddess, fractured and raw, but standing proud. A little busted. A little brilliant. Just like the rest of us.

Basically Venus in a chaotic situationship, a spray tan, and a therapy bill—wrapped in heartbreak and humor like a Greek tragedy set in West Hollywood. A fine rare mess.
